Acts 5:14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.
Charity Baptist Church has a very rich and full history. We also have a rich and full future.
A group of dedicated Christians felt the leading of the Lord to step out by faith and start a new Church; a Church with a fresh start in the community where their families could fellowship and serve in harmony and love for one another. Charity Baptist Church was born on May 31, 1978 in the living room of a member in Southgate, Michigan. There were 25 people present on that first day.
The Lord led this new congregation to call Rev. Richard Arnold as their first pastor. Pastor Arnold preached his first Sunday at Charity Baptist Church on October 15, 1978. Pastor Arnold would lovingly lead this Church for the next 23 years.
Dr. Arnold went home to be with the Lord in June of 2001 just days after the 23rd Anniversary of Charity Baptist Church. His life touched thousands for the glory of the Lord.
On Sunday December 16th, 2001, Dr. Wayne Halleck was the guest speaker. Pastor Halleck, his wife Debbie, and their three children had spent 15 years as missionaries in Costa Rica and Puerto Rico with Baptist World Mission. Pastor Halleck had also pastored in the mountains of Pilgrims Knob, Virginia, at Baptist Bible Church, as well as served as Assistant Pastor and Christian School Administrator in Bristol, Virginia, at Belle Meadow Baptist Church and Mountain Empire Baptist School. Pastor Halleck was given the call to become the second pastor of Charity Baptist Church. Pastor Halleck and his wife Debbie knew the moment that they stepped into the Church that God was going to do something wonderful in their lives.
Charity Baptist is focusing its attention on the task of evangelizing our community for Christ. Our desire is to preach the Word of God without apology. We love to sing the traditional hymns of the faith. Our goal is to take the Gospel to the world, and keep worldliness out of the Church. We desire to please the Lord in everything that we do.
